TUCSON, Ariz. — Here we are in the first week of April and the mercury still has not reached 90 degree in Tucson. That’s pretty good considering we topped the 90 degree mark on March 22 last year. In fact, going back to 2015, we’ve reached the 90-degree mark prior to April 1 each of those years. In 2016, we made it to 90 degrees on Feb. 17! So, we have managed to beat the heat a bit longer this year.
After this weekend, though, a ridge of high pressure will build over southern Arizona and give our high temperatures a boost! In Tucson, we expect the mercury to reach 90 degrees Monday afternoon. Looks like the highs will remain in the 90s for Tuesday before dropping back into the 80s for the middle of next week. Mark your calendars, it appears April 8 will be the first 90-degree day of the year in Tucson. Be thankful because it won’t be too long until we’re talking about the first 100-degree day of year. In case you’re wondering, the average date for the first 100-degree day in Tucson is May 25.
Better make sure your air conditioning is ready to go for the summer!
