TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Salvation Army Tucson has announced Operation Deep Freeze is in effect for Friday, Feb. 4.

The operation was also in effect Wednesday and Thursday.

“We just want the community to know we are here, we are open, and we are providing services especially on these cold nights,” said Program Manager Yoli Hasler.

Hasler says more people show up needing help when temperatures drop into the 20s.

“We get a lot of people we don’t normally see. Which is good. That’s what we are here to do, is to provide the services, warm meal, hot shower and a safe place to stay for the evening.”

The Salvation Army Tucson Hospitality House located at 1002 N Main Avenue will accept those in need of shelter from 2 to 5 p.m.

Donations are needed at this time; including coats, blankets, gloves, socks, and sweaters.

Those donations can be dropped off at:

  • Naughton’s Plumbing, 6062 E. Speedway Blvd., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Hospitality House, 1002 N. Main Ave., 7 days per week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

When temperatures drop to freezing you should bring your pets inside. And remember to wrap your outdoor pipes or allow them to drip slowly.
