Severe thunderstorms bring heavy rains, strong winds, hail through the Tucson Metro Area

UPDATE AT 4:29 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21

Severe thunderstorms roared through the Tucson Metro Area this afternoon, moving from South Tucson and the Tucson International Airport, north through Reid Park and the University of Arizona.

KGUN received reports of quarter-sized hail, heavy winds, lightning and localized flooding.

A second storm cell moved northwest of Oracle, but did not impact the Tucson area.

Periodic rain is expected throughout the evening in Tucson, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s.

IF we get enough clearing from the lingering cloud cover, we have the potential for strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms, blowing dust, and heavy rain.

Daily rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue this week. Cooler than
temperatures Monday and Wednesday then warming to above normal next weekend.
