This weekend will bring the coldest temperatures to southern Arizona that we have seen since last winter. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the upper 20s to near freezing for Saturday and Sunday morning. Even into next week, overnight lows will continue to hover around the freezing mark.
Now is the time to make sure you protect your water pipes. Disconnect any hoses and make sure the pipes are wrapped to help prevent them from freezing and bursting. Protect your cold sensitive plants by bringing them inside or placing frost cloths over them. Consider picking any ripe citrus or cover the trees with blankets. Don’t forget to bring your pets inside and be sure to check on people that may not have access to adequate heat and shelter.
Cold temperatures are expected to remain over the area well into next week, so make sure you’re prepared. Overnight lows will gradually moderate into the lower 30s as we head into the new year. Daytime highs will struggle to climb out of the 50s until later next week. It’s definitely feeling like winter across southern Arizona. Bundle-up and stay warm!
