TUCSON, Ariz. - A Tucson man has been charged with murder for death of his girlfriend's baby, along with charges of child abuse on Saturday, December 22, 2018.
Per a press release from the Tucson Police Department, Nicholas Liggens, 19, was arrested for child abuse on December 17 and booked into Pima County Jail.
Officers from the Midtown Department responded to a call on December 16 around 5 p.m. concerning an unrepsonsive baby in an apartment.
After authorities arrived on scene, four-month-old Ivan Escobedo was immediately transferred to Banner for treatment, where staff was able to regain vitals, but unable to get the child to breathe on his own.
Per TPD, Liggens, who was dating the infant's mother, was left in charge of him at the time the call was made to police. TPD investigations revealed that the child had suffered "significant head trauma that appeared to be non-accidental in nature."
After later investigations took place, Liggens was charged with murder in the first degree, child abuse (for the infant) and additional charge of child abuse for the baby's 3-year-old sibling.
Officers are still investigating the incident, so anyone with info is encouraged to call police. Callers can remain anonymous and share tips through 88-CRIME.
