TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Sugar Skulls pulled off what no other team has done in Indoor Football League history, qualify for the playoffs in their inaugural season.

"To be able to reach the playoffs in our inaugural season is just amazing," according to Sugar Skulls Owner Kevin Guy. "The first time it's ever been done in league history."

As the Sugar Skulls were trying to make history Saturday night at Tucson Arena, owner Kevin Guy had his other hat on as Arizona Rattlers Head Coach.

"I actually had my director of tam security give me updates as the Rattlers game was going on," explained Guy. "As soon as the game was over, they put my phone right in front of me and had the game on."

"We were up 20 when I started watching it. When the turnover happened as a coach, you start going okay here it goes. Because these games are never over."

The Sugar Skulls did hold on to beat Quad City 55-50. They advance to Sunday's playoff showdown at Sioux Falls.

"I was very confident that this team was going to get into the playoffs as an expansion team this first year," said Guy. "I felt like we hired all the right people. We had all the pieces in place not only on the football side, but on the front office side. I had a lot of confidence that this organization was going to get there."

Guy also has a lot of confidence when it comes to the playoffs, winning five championships in indoor football with the Rattlers. Although, this will be his first shot in the postseason as an owner.

"You have to raise your game come playoff time. It's really physical. For a lot of coaches and a lot of players can get tight. You try to stay loose as possible and play through it."

The Sugar Skulls meet the Storm Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls. It is a 1 p.m. kickoff Tucson time, and can be seen on the IFL's YouTube channel.
