TUCSON, Arizona — Heading into this season, Tucson first baseman Carlie Scupin was the reigning Arizona Gatorade player of the year.

"It was something kind of unexpected because of how much talent is in the state," Scupin said.

Carlie was set to have one of the greatest seasons in southern Arizona softball history, until the coronavirus canceled her senior season.

"Our final goal is obviously to make it to state and win state, but we can’t do it any more and we’re all disappointed about it, but now we have to look ahead and prepare for whatever is next."

Next for Carlie is taking her talents to Hillenbrand Stadium.

"Arizona is definitely my dream school. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a little kid."

And, thanks to the NCAA granting college seniors another season of spring eligibility, Carlie will be playing alongside Wildcats she never thought she would be.

"Watching them for so many years, and then being on the same team and learning from them is awesome."
