The Cienega Bobcats are the class 5A state softball champions after a 4-1 win over Sahuaro at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
Cienega opened the scoring with a first inning home run from Kaitlyn Anderson. Jenessa Jarvis added another home run in the second inning.
"Hitting hose home runs early, and being able to hit Lexe Coons that fast was great," said Jarvis. "It really got our momentum going."
"Usually, we start off quickly, and today is no different," said head coach Eric Tatham. "Seeing the girls come through on such a great pitcher was pretty fun to watch."
It's the third state title in school history for the Bobcats, who finished the season with a 28-7 record. Despite it involving two southern Arizona teams, the game was played in Tempe due to an upcoming tape delayed television broadcast.
Southern Arizona continued its strong showing in the state softball tournament. CDO is the class 4A champions, Empire won the class 3A title, and Benson won the class 2A title.
