TUCSON, Ariz — Arizona Football has fired defensive coordinator Marcel Yates and running backs coach John Rushing. Defensive analyst Chuck Cecil has been elevated to defensive coordinator.
Yates was in his fourth year in the Wildcat program, having previously coached under Rich Rodriguez. Rushing was in his second year in the program.
Arizona ranks 118th in the nation points allowed (35) and 119th in yards allowed (470.)
Cecil is one of Arizona's all-time great players, having previously been a defensive coordinator with the NFL's Tennessee Titans.
Head Coach Kevin Sumlin is expected to address the coaching change during Monday's weekly news conference. The Wildcats host Oregon State on Saturday's homecoming game.
