TUCSON, Ariz — Arizona Women's Basketball likely wouldn't be coming off record setting attendance numbers and a WNIT tournament win, and the University wants to make sure she stays at McKale Center for the foreseeable future.
Barnes has signed a contract extension to stay with the Wildcats through 2023-24.
"Adia Barnes has built an exciting program and a culture of excellence since returning as head coach at the University of Arizona," said Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke in statement.
Barnes is former player for the Wildcats who not only recruited McDonalds All-American Cate Reese, but led the Wildcats to a 24-win season in her third campaign with the Wildcats. Aari McDonald transferred to Arizona and broke the school's single season scoring record, which was previously held by Barnes.
"The rise of our program has been powered by an amazing group of student-athletes who represent what this program stands for on and off the court," said Barnes. "I can't wait to continue t coach these young women and take the program to another level."
