TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — As the sun sets in Oro Valley, the band is just getting started. "We thought this would be a fun way to spend the evening," said audience member, Lynn Ryerson.
It's a scene many in the audience haven't experienced in months. Owner of The Gaslight Theatre, Tony Terry, made it possible to keep his business alive.
"It's been very difficult for us to maintain and to stay in business," said Terry.
Terry said he and his staff have had to be creative. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Gaslight Theatre took their performances outside. They allow their audiences in East Tuscon and Oro Valley to drive-up in their cars and enjoy a concert or melodrama.
"It's safe for them. It gives them a way to deal with this pandemic," said Terry.
In 2021, The Gaslight Theatre is planning ahead. Four new performances will hit the stage by the end of the year. Many more will be available to watch virtually.
It's not just the 44-year-old business that is benefiting.
"We're really lucky to be working at all right now. I know a lot of my friends, who are musicians, are now working at all," said guitar player and vocalist, Michael Serres.
While rocking the stage may not look the same as it did before, Serres said, "Anytime I can be out playing music with these guys, I can't really wish for anything better than that."
