TUCSON, Ariz. — As COVID-19 numbers go up, one local gym is taking steps to keep customers safe. Ron Yousefnejad, owner of Prestige Fitness in Tucson, says he bought a temperature check kiosk about 7 months ago and it's been one of the best investments he’s made since the start of the pandemic.

"The protocol is to come in with a mask, get the temperature taken and they’re good to go once they’re cleared and it says the temperature is approved. It’s been very effective it uses infrared imaging,” Yousefnejad said.

Companies are using the new technology to help fight the pandemic while giving them a way to check temperatures before visitors make their way through the door.

"I was looking for something that was going to be easy fast it takes a temperature in less than 1 second. "It allows people to get their temperature taken without having to rely on another human to do it,”Yousefnejad said.

Yousefnejad says he wanted to make the process as easy as possible. After doing some research he found out 98.6 labs had a kiosk that’s designed to accurately take your temperature on the spot.

“You stand in the box look in to the camera and it takes about 180 different points of your face and gives us an accurate temperature of how you’re doing," Yousefnejad said.

The pandemic shut down the gym for a couple of months earlier this year, but Ron was ready when his doors opened back up. As for customers the owner says they're happy to get out of the house and into the gym when they can. According to 98.6 Labs the machines cost about $3,000 each. They’re also being used at businesses as a safety measure all across the country.

“It’s very fast and quick and I think that’s key. You don’t have a big line of people coming in that need to do it. People come in do it on their own. The customers love it because they know that anyone coming into our facility has a temperature that’s in a range that’s acceptable. I just want to thank the Tucson community for helping local businesses like us stay in business,” He said.
