Scripps News and Decision Desk HQ project that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will win Tuesday's democratic primary, in which she was up for reelection.

A victory means Willis will clear one hurdle in keeping a racketeering case against former President Donald Trump on track. That indictment accuses Trump and co-defendants of interfering in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

With her projected victory, Willis defeated Democratic challenger Christian Wise Smith, who also ran against her in 2020.

Willis will face Courtney Kramer, a Republican candidate, for the district attorney's position in November's general election. Kramer is running unopposed in her party but is considered a long-shot candidate in heavily Democratic Fulton County. She previously served in the Trump campaign and in the Trump White House.

It's not yet clear how Fulton County's election interference case against Trump will proceed.

Trump and co-defendants are appealing the case, which may already delay a potential trial until after the presidential election in November.

Continued prosecution of the indictment against Trump is also at the discretion of the district attorney. If Willis loses in November to Kramer, Kramer may choose to deprioritize or even not pursue the case.
