Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are putting their support behind Kamala Harris for president.
In a statement Friday, the Obamas said they "couldn’t be more excited for her -- or more thrilled to endorse" the vice president.
"There is no doubt in our mind that Kamala Harris has exactly what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people," a statement from the Obamas says.
After the Democratic Party essentially united behind Harris following President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 race, there had been a lot of questions about when the Obamas would endorse the vice president. Scripps News reported on Thursday that the endorsement was expected "soon," and Mr. Obama and Harris had been in regular touch with each other.

In the statement, the Obamas said they got a chance to catch up with the vice president this week after "a couple of busy days" for her.
"We’re going to do everything we can to elect Kamala Harris the next President of the United States,' the Obamas said.
Harris and Mr. Obama have known each other for 20 years. He's been known to be a sounding board for Harris as she has risen up the Democratic ranks.
