It is going to be another cold night, but otherwise the weather is pretty tranquil until tomorrow.

Another cold storm system is going to bring us rain and snow just in time for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

A front swinging through Monday afternoon will drop the snow level from 5,000 feet down to under 4,000 feet.

There is a Winter Storm Warning for the mountains around Tucson. Yes, that does include cities like Mt. Lemmon and Summerhaven. More than ten inches will fall above 7,000 feet. The warning goes into effect after 2pm Monday and lasts through to 5pm Tuesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for areas southeast of Tucson above 4,000 feet from 5pm Monday to 5pm Tuesday. So areas that just got snow could see another 1-2 inches.

Tuesday morning the snow level could lower briefly to 2500 feet which would mean snowflakes mixing in with rain showers in the Tucson metro area.

As the system moves out on Tuesday we will be left in a cold air mass. High temperatures will struggle to reach higher than upper 40s in Tucson. We’ll see freezing temperatures again that night into Wednesday morning.

Dry weather expected Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures will warm into the 60s for Friday and Saturday.

Another system is set to arrive by Sunday, but it should be much warmer with snow possibly falling on the higher mountain peaks.

Have a happy and safe New Year!
