Three driving rules you could be breaking in Arizona

Learning to drive -- You might say, "Been there! Done that!"

But are you breaking any rules without even knowing it? We're putting your knowledge of the roads to test in an Operation Safe Roads Special Report.

CHECK FOR YOURSELF: CAN YOU PASS THE ARIZONA LICENSE TEST?

How about hopping on the freeway just to get off at the next exit to beat traffic? Is that allowed?

Not only it is legal, but it also has a name!

"It's called 'exit-jumping,'" explains Trooper Kameron Lee with DPS. "You can absolutely do that and that's what it's there for."

Next up...littering! We all know we shouldn't do it, but is it really illegal?

"Littering in this state is a misdemeanor crime," explains Trooper Lee -- and that means you could even go to jail for it or face a $1,000 fine.

"Any food, paper, cigarette butts or anything that constitutes littering and it's a criminal fine and we will stop you and you will get a fine every single time."

How about driving with your headphones

"There is no law against it," explains Trooper Lee. "But we advise against it."

And for good reason. Not only can those headphones be a distraction, they can also make it hard to hear emergency vehicles, putting everyone else in danger.
