TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson police have arrested 34-year-old John David Ward in connection with Sunday night's hit and run collision.

Police say Ward struck a cyclist with his vehicle near Rillito and 11th Ave., seriously injuring the victim, who was not wearing a helmet.

The bicyclist was riding northbound on 11th along the eastern curb when a white passenger car left a parking lot at the corner of Rillito and Oracle. The car was following a light-colored truck. The driver of the car ran the stop sign at 11th and made a wide turn, hitting the bicyclist. Both drivers left the scene.

After surveillance video was released yesterday from the night of the incident detectives received multiple tips that led them to the arrest of Ward.

Ward was arrested on one count of Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident, a Class 2 Felony. He was transported and booked into Pima County Jail. His vehicle was also located.

The victim of Sunday night's collision remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Tucson Police thanks the public for sharing the released information through social media that led to an arrest.
