Detectives are investigating a deadly hit and run that happened early Sunday morning near the Speedway and Wilmot intersection.

Police say just after 2:30 a.m. officers were called to a serious injury collision. When they got to the intersection, they saw two cars.

The driver of one car was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the same car was taken to Banner UMC, where he also passed away shortly after getting there.

The two victims are 24-year-old Meghan Clevenger and 20-year-old Angel Vega.

The driver of the second car involved, ran away before police got to the scene.

Detectives have determined that a gold 2002 Honda Accord was traveling west on Speedway, toward Wilmot. As the Honda entered the intersection on a green light, it was hit by a black 2018 Nissan Sentra that had run a red light going north on Wilmot. Detectives say the driver of the Nissan ran away and headed northeast on foot. He is still at large.

Detectives say based on evidence gathered and witnesses in the area, it appears the Nissan was going at a high rate of speed when it ran the red light.
