Kyrsten Sinema moved a step closer toward her goal of taking over Jeff Flake's Senate seat Tuesday.
Sinema bested Deedra Abboud in the Democratic primary race. Sinema will face off against the GOP nominee for the seat that Flake has occupied. He announced in October that he would not seek re-election.
The 42-year-old Tucson native is giving up her seat in the ninth district of the United States House. She has served in Congress since 2013.
The general election is Nov. 6.
