Phoenix police say the family of a toddler found wandering in an apartment complex on Sunday has been located.
According to police, just after 7 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a complex near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road for a report of a 2- to 3-year-old boy wandering.
Officers located the toddler and tried to locate the child's parents and relatives but were unsuccessful.
Police say the child was placed in the care of the Arizona Department of Child Services while officers attempted to locate the family.
Phoenix police said Tuesday morning that the child's family had been located. DCS and detectives continued to search the complex where the child was found and determined that there was miscommunication between the family and who was supposed to be caring for the child.
The investigation is ongoing.
