More technology than ever are in cars today and it is meant to help drivers keep their eyes on the road.
But, a new study by AAA foundation has found all those screens and buttons could be making driving more dangerous for one generation. That distraction also has nothing to do with cell phones.
AAA looked at two different age ranges for this research. The first group was drivers between 55 and 75. The second group was drivers under 35.
The study found that older adults usually took up to eight seconds longer to use some of the voice commands, GPS, the radio, etc., which is an excessive amount of time to take your eyes off the road.
AAA also warns that for every two seconds a driver does not have their full attention behind the wheel, it doubles the driver's risk of getting in an accident.
The organization said this has nothing to do with age, but that these systems are more designed with a younger generation in mind.
They believe car companies will look at ways to make it easier for all ages to use the technology safely.
In the meantime, AAA suggest drivers practice while parked to get the hang of it before hitting the road.
