National Sandwich Day: Where to get free food, deals on Thursday

If there ever was a time that America needed free sandwiches, it's now.

Thursday is National Sandwich Day — a completely fabricated holiday allegedly inspired by the birthday of the man who invented the sandwich — and in a time of historic division across the country, we can all celebrate meats surrounded by breads.

Several restaurant chains are offering free sandwiches or special deals in honor of National Sandwich Day. See some of them listed below.

Arby's — While the chain isn't offering a deal specific to National Sandwich Day, if you sign up for email coupons at its website, you'll get a free Roast Beef Classic sandwich with the purchase of a drink.

Jersey Mike'sEmail club members and social media followers get a $2-off coupon to be used on any regular sub sandwich on Thursday.

Lenny's SubsCustomers get 25 percent off every sandwich on Thursday.

McAlister's DeliAll club sandwiches are $4 on Thursday.

Penn StationCustomers who buy one sandwich get another free, of equal or lesser value. The chain announced the offer with the tagline: "Stupid holiday. Stupendous deal."

Quiznos — Get a free 4-inch sub when you download the Quiznos loyalty app. The company also said it's announcing National Sandwich Day giveaways throughout the day Thursday on its Twitter page.

Schlotzsky's — Customers who buy a medium sandwich will get another one free at the chain's locations nationwide. The offer includes specialty sandwiches.

Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain DeliBuy one sandwich, get another free of equal or lesser value. The chain has locations in Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin and a handful of other states.

Subway — The nation's most popular deli restaurant is offering a buy-one-get-one deal on Thursday. If you buy a sandwich and a drink, you'll get a free sandwich of equal or lesser value. No sub is off limits. Also, Subway will donate a meal to charity for every sandwich purchase.

Lance Cracker Sandwiches — The makers of popular ToastChee and peanut butter-filled cracker sandwiches is getting in on National Sandwich Day. Go online to Lance.com and download a "This is How We Sandwich" coupon on Thursday for a free box of Lance sandwich crackers.
