WWII Veterans receive French Legion of Honor Medal

Two World War II Veterans received the French Legion of Honor Medal today.

Colonel Robert D. Dwan and Corporal Lawrence W. Strahler received the medal for their service in the US Army during WWII.

This is France's highest award.

The two will add the French Legion of Honor Medal to their other significant decorations.

Colonel Dwan's decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, and the French Croix de Guerre.

Corporal Strahlers decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. 

Friends, family and military personnel, attended the ceremony. 

The granddaughter of Corporal Strahler spoke about what the significance of the event.

My family is just proud... We're just very honored today.
