Woman suing over rape by Mormon leader speaks at this church

Posted

A woman who sued a former Mormon missionary leader claiming that he raped her in the 1980s, went to his congregation in Arizona and said church leaders are covering for a "sexual predator."

A video posted online Monday shows McKenna Denson telling the congregation in Chandler, Arizona, on Sunday that Joseph L. Bishop raped her in 1984 at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. She was quickly escorted from the podium after speaking during a segment when church members share their testimony.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said it is "disappointing" that someone would interrupt worship services "to bring attention to their own personal cause."

A judge recently dismissed part of Denson's lawsuit, but allowed a fraud claim to stand.

Bishop has denied the allegations.
