Woman gets 6 months in jail for manslaughter conviction

Posted

A Pinal County woman who pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the shooting death four years ago of another woman has been sentenced to six months in jail and seven years of probation.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that 59-year-old Leanor Guitard was sentenced Thursday in the death of Juana Cervantes Valesquez Sanchez.

Authorities were called to Guitard's home in January 2014 and found Sanchez on the kitchen floor.

Court records say Guitard and Sanchez had blood alcohol levels that were above the legal limit.

Guitard's attorney said in court documents that Guitard was a friend of Sanchez and had no motive to kill her.

Probation officials recommended Guitard be sentenced to probation due to her lack of a criminal history and remorse for killing Sanchez.
