Officials say a 73-year-old woman from Arizona was fatally struck after leaving an Arkansas welcome center and walking into traffic.
Arkansas State Police say Elizabeth Karsner of Tucson was fatally struck early Sunday morning on Interstate 30 in Texarkana after leaving the welcome center where she and her husband had stopped to rest.
Police say the driver of the vehicle that hit Karsner left the scene.
Police say they do not yet know why she walked into the eastbound lanes of the interstate. They will conduct interviews with family members as part of their investigation.
In a preliminary crash report, police said the weather was clear and the roads were dry at 1:50 a.m., the time of the accident.
