Winterhaven Festival of Lights officially underway

Posted

Let the oohs and aahs begin -- for another impressive start to a Tucson tradition. Winterhaven's Festival of Lights is officially underway for the 67th year.

Mike Kwinn and his family just recently moved to Tucson from New York. Tonight, they decided to check out the Festival of Lights -- not really knowing what to expect.

"It's amazing, it's really cool!" his two daughters Emerald and Jade Kwinn said.

Mr. Kwinn had heard about the festival, and had some high expectations for the evening. But once he got there, those expectations were blown out of the water, as he was in awe.

"This is fantastic," he said. "And what a turnout! There's a lot of people here, a lot of things to do. This is just a really neat, exciting, and very festive place."

Another first-timer also just moved to Tucson -- except from the opposite side of the country -- Los Angeles. She was very amazed by the lights, display and atmosphere, but moreso, by the people behind it.

"It's beautiful," Cindy Molano said. "I love the decorations, and how people took their time to do all of this for us."

On the other side of the coin, there are some people that continue to go to the festival year after year.

"This is the best time of the year to come and spend time with my family," J.T. said.

The lights, the music, the family and friends; to him, no better way to start the holiday season.

The Festival of Lights runs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every night until December 26th.
