Winterhaven Festival of Lights needs your help

The 67th Annual Winterhaven Festival of Lights will be back this year, but the neighborhood needs your help to continue.

Cox, Tucson Electric Power and Southwest Gas help residents decorate their homes. The Pascua Yaqui Tribe had been the title sponsor. However, after several years and nearly $200,000 of supporting Winterhaven’s Festival of Lights, the Tribe has decided to continue its commitment to Tucson by supporting other important nonprofit needs within the community.

The Winterhaven neighborhood needs around $40,000 to help keep the festival running after this year.

"The barricades cost $20,000,  then we have insurance another $15,000, porta-johns, trash, there are a lot of things that go into it," said Jim Tofel, a Winterhaven resident.

Tofel says it cost $95,000 in total fees to put the festival on.

He explained over 200,000 people attend every year and the main reason they need the money is for safety and security precautions.

The lights will be going up December 3 and the festival will run from December 10-26th everyday from 6-10 pm.
