It was early September when animal-control officers found 40 dogs in the home of a hoarder.

Out of all the animals, one captured Tucson's attention.

Despite having no front legs, apparently the result of inbreeding, the dog they call Roo still manages to get around.

Since her rescue, Roo has been learning to use her back legs to propel a specially designed cart.

But now, she has another challenge.

"She has severe his dysplasia, said Joanne Carrillo. "Possibly considering a hip replacement for her."

In her work as a pet support specialist at Pima Animal Care Center, Joanne Carrillo has to resist the urge to adopt every animal she cares for.

But, in the case of Roo, this is one temptation she will not fight.

'I do actually plan on adopting her. I do. Roo will stay with me when she's ready for adoption." Carrillo said.
