TUCSON, Ariz. — Everyone wants to get to the this weekend's highly anticipated Thunder and Lightning air show, but there are some roads to avoid on the way there.
Major traffic will be expected around Davis-Monthan on the days of the show, but roadway improvements south of the base, on Valencia Road from Kolb Road to Wilmot Road, will cause major speed and lane restrictions.
TDOT is suggesting going along Alvernon Way and Golf Links Road to access the air show. Also, to allow more time for travel to the area.

Here are the times and places the roads will be worked on:
2 to 7 p.m. – Eastbound Golf Links Road will be closed from Ajo Way to Wilmot Road.
2 to 7 p.m. – Westbound Golf Links Road will be closed from Wilmot Road to Swan Road.
2 to 7 p.m. – Eastbound Aviation Parkway will be closed at Alvernon Way.
Here are when there are certain restrictions:
Beginning at 3 p.m. and continuing until 7 p.m., the Craycroft Road and Swan Road gates will be converted to outbound traffic only. There will be no inbound access.
Craycroft Road will be converted to four outbound exit lanes:
• Two exit lanes allowing traffic to proceed north on Craycroft
• Two exit lanes allowing traffic to turn right and proceed east on Golf Links
Swan Road will be converted to four outbound exit lanes:
• Two exit lanes allowing traffic to proceed north on Swan
• Two exit lanes allowing traffic to turn left and proceed west on Golf Links
Guest Access:
Per TDOT, access to DMAFB, for the general public and all guests who are non-military ID-card holders, will be through the gates at both Craycroft Road and Swan Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Military ID-card holders (active duty, dependents, retirees, etc.) will be able to access DMAFB via the North Wilmot gate which will be open 24 hours starting Friday, March 22, through Sunday, March 24, at 2200 (10 p.m.)
Parking instruction, per Davis-Monthan:
"Enter Davis-Monthan Air Force Base via the Swan or Craycroft gates starting at 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday. You will be directed to the closest parking areas. Be advised that there are Handicap spots available near the show entrance if you have proper vehicle identification. Expect a walk of up to ½ mile from some of our further parking lots."
