The state's new driver's manual advises drivers how they should handle themselves when they are pulled over.
As Carlos Herrera reports, drivers with guns should keep their hands on the steering wheel during traffic stops and tell officers right away that a firerarm is in the car.
Motorists should also not reach for anything inside the car without getting permission from the officer first.
Gun owners should know that officers have permission to take possession of guns for safety reasons before the stop is completed. The guns are returned if officers believe no crime has been committed.
ADOT and DPS say the advice is meant to help improve communication between police and drivers. They reiterated that they advice is only a guideline and not the law.
