TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — Governor Katie Hobbs stopped in Tucson's southside Friday morning to highlight a success story of her administration's first-time homebuyer program.
The $13 Million Arizona is Home Program was announced earlier this year. It helped one Tucson mom, a single mom of two daughters, get into her first home.
“This is such a great example of why these investments matter,” said Governor Hobbs.
The governor attended the emotional milestone with Yudiria Redondo, one of 362 Arizonans who have completed the program.
“Homeownership provides stability. I could hear her daughters so proud she was able to do this with this program, so making homeownership is important to my administration and keep doing more of it,” Governor Hobbs said.
Redondo's family is one of the few who received help from Governor Hobbs herself.
“It’s something I won’t forget. Never. I will tell it to my grandkids one day, if I have any,” said Redondo.
Ytzel and Emma Valenzuela, her teenage daughters, admired the hard work their mother put into purchasing their very first home.
“I’m very proud of my mommy,” said Ytzel Valenzuela. “She’s very determined and she gets it done. I think especially for us, she’s made a lot of sacrifices.”
As for Redondo, she's excited to make the space her own. "I don’t have to ask nobody,“ she said. “I can do whatever I want outside. Paint it, trees, whatever I want.”
The Arizona is Home program is expected to help up to 500 qualifying Arizonans through the homebuying process. Forms of assistance offered include down payments, interest rate relief, and closing costs.
The program is for low-to-moderate-income families who are looking to buy a home for the first time.
