A Vail Border Patrol agent was arrested for conspiracy to make false statements in connection with the acquisition of firearms.
The indictment alleges that Ramon Antonio Monreal-Rodriguez, 37, assigned to the Three Points, Ariz. station, conspired to unlawfully get firearms on behalf of others.
As part of the conspiracy, Monreal and another co-defendant gave cash and instructions to a third co-defendant to buy firearms from licensed dealers. The person in charge of buying the firearms gave false statements and representations to the dealers.
Monreal has been employed as a Border Patrol agent for 10 years and resigned upon his arrest.
