U.S. Deputy Marshal dies in line of duty

TUCSON, Ariz. — A U.S. Deputy Marshal died in the line of duty on Thursday in Midtown Tucson. around 5:30 p.m. near 2600 block of North 15th Avenue.

The Marshal was serving an active felony warrant around 5:30 p.m. for 26-year-old Ryan Schlesinger for stalking law enforcement when the Marshal was shot on scene.

TPD confirmed that the fallen Marshal was not alone at the scene and was with other officers.

Schlesinger's address was at 2614 North 15th Avenue and after the shooting occurred, TPD officers responded by sending units to the scene and surrounding the house.

Schlesinger surrendered to police and per TPD, was not injured and brought into custody.

The Marshal was rushed to the hospital but died from injuries.

TPD is not releasing the name of the fallen Marshal at this time, but U.S. Marshal David Gonzales, who serves the district of Arizona, is at the hospital with personnel.

TPD is working with federal agencies, like the FBI, to investigate the situation.

TPD is offering their deep condolences to the Marshal's family and the Marshal's enforcement family.
