TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona School of Journalism honored CNN Christiane Amanpour with the 2019 Zenger Award for Press Freedom.

The award is given to those who have made extraordinary contributions to press freedom and the people's right to know around the world.

Christiane Amanpour spoke at a ceremony on Friday about why she has been a journalist for so long.

Christiane Amanpour says "Why do i keep doing it? I keep doing it because after 36 years, I joined CNN September 1983. I still love it; I think it's a great profession; I think it's a noble profession, but more important than that, I think it's a game changing profession."

Amanpour is the chief international anchor of CNN's global affairs program "Amanpour," which is based in London.

She began her career as an entry-level assistant on the international desk in Atlanta.
