Those in the area were forced to deal without water or electrical service from Monday night through Wednesday morning.

In addition to a water outage that started Monday night and continued into Wednesday, more than 400 Tucson Electric Power suffered a power outage that started at 11:24 a.m. No cause was listed. Power was restored by 1 p.m.

Tucson Water says many living on the southwest side have been without water after a water main break Monday night. As a result, Tucson Unified School District shut down five schools in the area Tuesday.

Darlene Campuzano And her family were already getting bottled water delivered, but now they’re using it to flush their toilets.

"I was just talking to my son. I said the things we sometimes take for granted, you know, water. Then I try not to be too selfish because I’m thinking of everyone in Florida waiting for the hurricane and you know, I guess a few days without water is not anything compared to what those folks are going through.”

She and others we talked to are planning on heading for hotels so they can at least rent some running water until service is restored.

According to TUSD, Johnson, Banks, Warren and Vesey Elementary Schools, as well as Valencia Middle School, were closed Tuesday.

As of 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, TUSD confirms all five schools will be closed Wednesday. TUSD announced Wednesday afternoon that all schools would be back to their normal schedule Thursday.

On Thursday, TUSD reported that all water at the five previously closed schools has been tested and cleared.

Bottled water is available at Ajo and Kinney for those affected.

Erik Fjersted (Fee air sted) picked up some water. He says he’s better off that a lot of people. His pool provides plenty of water to use in the toilets.

“You know, I feel for the people that have kids and swamp coolers and the schools closed because of the outage and now they’ve got to deal with no toilets.” :45

When five schools closed because they lost water, that affected two of Rosana Flores six children

She says, “I don’t know if we’re gonna have to get a room cuz I don’t know how they’re gonna fix it. So it’s been hard, Ht you know the showers and the rest room and so it’s been hard....”
