Tucson ranks best city in Arizona for active lifestyle

TUCSON, Ariz. -- If any of your New Year's resolutions include being active, Tucson is the place to live according to a new study.

WalletHub has ranked the Old Pueblo as the best city in Arizona for an active lifestyle. Overall, Tucson ranked 27th in the nation.

The study looked at the 100 biggest cities in the country based on 38 indicators. Tucson ranked 70th when it came to budget and participation, but was 18th overall for sports and the outdoors. In fact, Tucson was among the top five cities to have the most swimming pools per capita.

Here are the other cities in Arizona that made the list:
#34 - Scottsdale
#39 - Glendale
#46 - Phoenix
#62 - Gilbert
#72 - Chandler
#81 - Mesa

While Glendale was ranked 39th, it was the top city to have the lowest monthly fitness-club fees, according to WalletHub. Mesa also ranked 5th to having low fees.

More good news for Arizona comes with the amount of public golf course per capita. Gilbert, Scottsdale, Chandler and Mesa were the top four out of five cities that made the list.

There were some downsides when it came to the study. In fact, Scottsdale had the fewest basketball hoops per capita and Mesa and the fewest tennis courts. Gilbert also had the fewest park playgrounds to offer.

Overall, cities in Arizona did not rank last in the study. The worst place to live for an active lifestyle is North Las Vegas, NV, according to WalletHub. The best place to live is Honolulu, HI.
