The Tucson Jazz Institute placed first in the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival Sunday.
This victory marks the third time Tucson Jazz has taken first place honors.
The competition kicked off with a parade that all bands at the festival participated in to celebrate and support arts programs and education nationwide.
The New York festival, which takes place at Frederick P. Rose Hall, has been running for 22 years.
