This summer the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is collecting donations to feed local families.

According to information on the non-profit's website, your help is needed more than ever when school is out.

The Community Food Bank is busy all year long, serving 191,233 last year through its emergency food box program. Through the donations and volunteers, the Community Food Bank works to stop hunger in five counties in Southern Arizona.

There are many ways to get involved and help, especially during the "No Hunger Summer" campaign. You can either volunteer your time, donate food to help feed families or make a monetary donation.

Volunteering at the Community Food Bank is a simple process and works around your schedule. Those interested can start by going to the website, and learn what it takes help. Once you sign up, you will go through a brief orientation and then can start helping.

If you choose to donate, the Community Food Bank accepts both food and cash donations. Items you can donate include canned tuna, canned chicken, packaged bean and other non-perishible foods. For those giving money, keep in mind that $1 can help provide four meals to families.

The organization is hosting events throughout the summer as part of the "No Hunger Summer" campaign. That includes Christmas in July Food Drives at different areas across town that allows the community to host food drives of their own. There is also an event happening Wednesday, July 11th that is new to the community. Families and friends can come for some fun and entertainment at Park Place Mall from 3:30 - 8 p.m.

In a three-hour period, volunteers fill 24 containers, including 1,800 bags and 18,000 to 20,000 pounds of food.
