Tucson firefighters battled an apartment fire Friday morning in the 7700 Block of East Speedway Blvd.

According to TFD, the 21-year-old resident woke up and noticed smoke coming form her bathroom and quickly ran to get her cats and left the building.

Firefighters evacuated a total of 12 apartments due to being close to the flames that included 8 people, 5 dogs and 3 cats.

Crews located the seat of the fire in the bathroom, but the flames had already spread to the attic and was working its way to nearby apartments.

Eleven units and thirty one firefighters controlled the flames in 14 minutes after arriving on scene.

The fire damaged the apartment of origin, the apartment next door (resident was out of town), and the apartment directly under the involved apartment.

TFD says that this was an electrical fire that originated in the bathroom exhaust fan.
