A man is facing murder charges after a 2-year-old girl sustained serious injuries while in his care.

According to Tucson Police, it happened Friday on the 7500 block of East Marc Place, on the city's east side. Officers first responded to a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old at around 9:30 p.m. at the home. The girl was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where she died Monday.

Police say 42-year-old George William Robinson -- who police say was "a friend" -- was watching the child when the incident occurred. He was initially arrested for child abuse and charged with murder after the 2-year-old girl died.

Officers booked him in the Pima County jail.
