The trial for men accused of killing University of Arizona student Bakari Henderson in 2017 were set to begin their murder trial Friday.
On July 7, 2017, a mob allegedly killed the 22-year-old on the Greek island of Zakynthos. Nine men were arrested connection with the crime, and two of those suspects were released on bail and fled the country. Henderson had just graduated.
According to authorities, the fight started when men took offense that a Serbian woman asked for a selfie with Henderson. The men followed Henderson out of the bar and beat him to death.
"We want justice for our son," said Henderson's parents, Jill and Phil Henderson, in a statement. "He was at the beginning of his life."
The Henderson family has created the Bakari Foundation in his honor.
