Victim identified in deadly shooting, TPD searching for suspect

Tucson Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at Iron Horse Park Thursday night.

The victim of the homicide has been identified as 53-year-old Nicholas Encalade.

Detectives have determined the shooting at Iron Horse Park and the unknown trouble call where a man with gunshot trauma located at N. 4th Ave and E. 9th St. are related. 

The suspect located at N. 4th Ave and E. 9th St was one of the outstanding suspects and he is receiving care at a local hospital.

The other suspect is still missing. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5'8'', with a skinny build.


On Thursday, just after 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the mouth of Rattlesnake Bridge for a reports of shots fired. When they arrived at the scene, they found one man had been shot.

Preliminary reports revealed the victim and a woman were visiting the park when two suspects approached them and demanded money. The man and woman complied with the demands, but one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the male victim before taking off on foot. The woman was not hurt.

He was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators are also looking into a second shooting that happened about 15 minutes later. Tucson Police were called to the intersection of N. 4th Ave. and E. 9th St. where officers found another man who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
