The Pima County Sheriff's Department ramped up its DUI enforcement and traffic safety efforts by implementing a new model that addresses specific problems on Tucson streets.
These new teams of deputies will be based in a few districts to address specific trends like neighborhood speeding, school zone violations and impaired driving.
Within the three main districts: Rincon, Foothills and San Xavier, each one now has an assigned sergeant, three motorcycle deputies and two DUI units.
Although they have moved to a decentralized approach, the department will still rely on their centralized units for large scale DUI task force operations.
