More than 6,100 homes and businesses were without power in southwest Tucson for several hours Tuesday, according to Tucson Electric Power.

Officials believe damaged equipment is causing the outage in the Drexel Heights and Midvale Park areas.

The company initially anticipated power to be restored to the region by 1 p.m. Tuesday, but pushed that back to 6 p.m. by Tuesday afternoon with only a fraction of power restored in the area.

As of 4:30 p.m., the initial outage area was restored, but another 2,000 TEP customers north of Midvale Park are without power.
