Tanque Verde adds half-days to end of school calendar

Tanque Verde Unified School District added two half-days to the end of the school year in order to make up missed classed time due to the teacher walkout.

The days will be May 24 and 25. The school year was originally scheduled to end May 23.

In addition, the district will extend early-release days to full days.

Here is the message the district sent parents:

Dear Tanque Verde Unified School District Parents and Guardians,

The Legislature passed the K-12 education budget bills, and the budget was signed into law by the Governor yesterday. We want to thank our parents and community for your support and understanding during this time.

We are back in full swing and have resumed all regular school operations as of today. We look forward to a successful finish to the 2017-18 school year with our students and staff.

As we have previously noted, we will be making up instructional time missed due to the school closures. This will be accomplished by making the following adjustments to the school schedule:

The remaining Early Release Wednesdays (May 9th, May 16th, and May 23rd) will be changed to a regular school day release time for all schools.

Two additional half days will be added to the school calendar on May 24th and May 25th. (This action requires approval by the TVUSD Governing Board) Because these days are being added so late in the school year, these days will be opportunities for additional learning, but will not be required and will not factor into a student's grade.

The Tanque Verde High School bell schedule will be modified to restore instructional time by extending Wednesdays as noted above, changing block period days, and adjusting the schedule during finals week. Please see the detailed communication from Principal Malis regarding the TVHS modified bell schedule.

Please refer to the Updated FAQ #2 - School Closures and Adjustments to 2017-18 School Year Calendar for responses to frequently asked questions regarding the school closures and the remainder of the school year. If you do not find the information needed there, please email your question to communications@tanq.org, and we will expand the FAQ based on questions received.

Thank you for your continued support,

Scott Hagerman, Ed.D.
