Students and teachers at Hendricks Elementary school said goodbye to their principal, Alan Schmidt, Friday.
Schmidt, a Captain of the Arizona National Guard, based in Phoenix, will soon be on a one-year, diplomatic mission to the Middle East.
The Flowing Wells High School ROTC presented colors at the goodbye ceremony. The school said they wanted to not only honor Schmidt's dedication to the school but for his service to the country as well.
"The military is part of my life, part of my heart, but my real heart is here at school as a principal," said Schmidt.
Schmidt says when he returns he will go back to his job as principal.
