PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona officials plan to close five state-operated group homes on the campus of a state facility for developmentally disabled people and place the homes' nearly 20 occupants in an intermediate care facility on the same campus.

A legislative briefing memo says the Department of Economic Security's plan for the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge is partly a response to federal regulations that generally no longer allow group homes to be co-located with an intermediate care facility.

The document also cites preferences of current group-home residents' guardians who have requested that their family members remain at the facility.

According to the document, the intermediate care facility has sufficient space to accommodate the current group-home residents.
