PHOENIX — An elderly woman was targeted for theft because the teenage suspects believed she "wouldn't put up much of a fight," according to court paperwork.

Phoenix police report that on December 5 they located and arrested 18-year-old Thomas Gonzalez for his involvement in targeting and robbing an elderly woman.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Fry's store near 32nd Street and Thomas Road. Witnesses tell police that Gonzalez and another adult teen Luis Verduzco, pushed the 68-year-old woman to the ground and took her purse.

They allegedly planned on splitting the $200 they stole. Police say they later told them that they targeted the elderly woman because they, "did not believe she would put up much of a fight."

Police are also investigating the pair in other robberies in the area.

Gonzalez has been charged with aggravated robbery and vulnerable adult abuse.

Verduzco was arrested for his involvement but specific charges haven't been announced.
