TUCSON, Ariz. - Santa Cruz County Sheriff Tony Estrada said Thursday the search for a hiker missing in Madera Canyon has turned into a recovery effort.
The department fielded a call about the hiker -- described as an elderly man -- from Pima County Sheriff's Department at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Estrada activated his department's search and rescue crew immediately. Multiple agencies are assisting in the rescue effort.
Crews have not found the man due to snowy conditions, but the search is continuing.
They found his vehicle, which has Ohio plates, in the visitor parking lot. The man is believed to reside near Tucson.
